About Dr. Michael Blecher, LCSW

Life can be overwhelming, and no one should have to navigate its challenges alone. As a therapist, I strive to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.

I specialize in working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and relationship issues. My therapeutic approach draws on evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This means we may work together to identify unhelpful patterns of thinking, learn how to stay grounded in the present moment, or explore how to accept and move through painful emotions instead of avoiding them.
My goal is always to meet clients where they are and to work together at a pace that feels right for them. Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you—it’s about helping you better understand yourself, develop healthier coping strategies, and build a life that feels more fulfilling and manageable.

Clients often describe our work as both thoughtful and practical. I bring curiosity and openness to every session, and I encourage honest feedback to make sure therapy stays aligned with your goals. While I take the work seriously, I also believe a little humor can go a long way in building trust and easing the process—especially in those early sessions. I’m a big fan of using tools like worksheets, handouts, and mental health apps to help clients reinforce what we discuss and apply it to daily life.

With a background in psychology and film, and past experience as a community organizer and academic, I bring a broad, humanistic perspective to my work. I connect well with people from all walks of life, and I’m always striving to see each person as a whole—beyond just their struggles.

What You Can Expect

In our sessions, you can expect to gain deeper insight into who you are, what matters to you, and what may be getting in your way. We’ll work together to help you understand and validate your emotional experiences, develop new ways of thinking, and build resilience in the face of life’s difficulties. You’ll come away with tools and strategies you can use in everyday life—and a renewed sense that your challenges are not insurmountable.
